Honeypot Marketing together with website developers New Mind Tell Us won the tender to develop a suite of four new destination websites for Conwy County in North Wales to be offered in both English and Welsh.
Although home to well known destinations such as Betws y Coed on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, Llandudno and Conwy Castle, Conwy County Borough Council were keen to raise the profile of the wider county amongst potential visitors and local people too. They already had two websites which covered the Llandudno area and the little known Hiraethog area, both of which needed updating and re-focussing, but also wanted to launch two new websites which focussed on two product areas which the Council felt warranted greater emphasis amongst potential visitors – a website for Eating Out and a website for Mountain Biking.
The four new websites would serve as a showcase for Conwy County area as an exciting and fresh destination for visitors.
Honeypot’s role was:
to work with the client Conwy County Borough Council and the website developers to agree a structure for each website based on the interests of the defined target markets;
to research and write inspiring editorial copy optimised for the search engines (SEO) for three of the websites (Hiraethog, Eating Out and Mountain Biking);
to manage the translation of the copy into Welsh;
to consult and liaise with local partners and local tourism businesses;
to collate information from an agreed list of accommodation, visitor attraction, eating out and retail businesses in English and Welsh;
to use this information to clean and enhance a database of businesses and to enter this information onto an online Destination Management System (DMS) in English and Welsh;
to commission and brief a selection of new professional photography of the area;
to populate each website template via a Content Management System (CMS) with editorial copy in English and in Welsh;
to select, resize and populate the website with photography using the CMS;
to utilise all available website features on the CMS to highlight the best the area has to offer;
to deliver training to the Conwy County Borough Council team on using the Destination Management System and website Content Management System, so that the sites could be maintained in the future.
The suite of websites was launched in October 2013 and now provides comprehensive source of inspirational information for Conwy County. The Council has gone on to use the collated information to provide a series of electronic kiosk points for visitors across the Conwy region. Although only launched a few months ago, initial results have shown a significant increase in visitors to the websites and all four websites have been warmly received by tourism businesses in the area.
"I would like to thank Honeypot Marketing for their part in the prompt delivery of our suite of websites. Their commitment to the task was 2nd to none, it has been a pleasure working with Juliet and Debi who guided the team throughout the process. The work delivered will be instrumental in showcasing the diverse range of things to do within North Wales. Many thanks for your commitment in delivering an excellent piece of work."
