Honeypot Destination Marketing were approached by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council with a requirement to cover a 9 month period of maternity leave in the Media and Communications Office. We were engaged to cover the office for approximately 2 days per week, and to provide flexibility for the Media and Communications officers for holiday cover and special assignments.
With a good understanding of the processes and policies within the local authority framework, we were able to quickly learn the new systems and competently deal with the day-to-day business of the Press Office.
The Press Office is a busy centre, handling enquiries from journalists representing a wide range of media - regional, national and specialist media, as well as writing and sending out press releases about the activities of the council and local community activities.
Honeypot were engaged at an exciting period of activity for the council and the Tonbridge & Malling Borough, with the Olympic Torch passing through part of the Borough and were able to provide assistance in manning the office when the event was taking place, as well as liaising with the families of the torch bearers before and on the day, and compiling information, stories and images for a story in the council's quarterly magazine ‘Here & Now’.
Honeypot was also assigned to manage some information and photography collation for a series of community groups who had benefitted from community and youth awards for a project that TMBC was in the process of delivering at that time, thus relieving other staff of the tasks.
We were able to deliver comprehensive cover for the office in helping to maintain the Council’s service and in particular in delivering:
- liaison with press and media
- press release writing
- news stories
- event management
- photo calls
- updating the Council website via CMS
- press cuttings
- liaison with Council Officers on all levels
- proof reading
